Old friends and director duo,
find beauty in what breaks

Ethan & Tom, directing duo from London, met during their first year at the
University of Westminster
studying Film. On New Years Day in 2018, Ethan sent Tom the song Take Off by his mate Kieran thinking it could be fun to make a video for it together.
The pair set off from there, and now have plenty more music videos under their belt by the likes of
Berwyn
,
Sam Akpro
and
Nayana
. There's an undercurrent running through Ethan & Tom's work, like '90s grunge but always bending to fit the music it's serving. They are constantly searching for unconventional ways to use the camera.
Whether that be because we can’t afford a certain thing or can’t find it.
From building a glass box around a camera lens for
Badgirl$
to burn a prison floor-plan over, to building a make-shift extended selfie stick to acheive an impossible angle for their
first Flohio video
. The DIY approach isn't a limitation, but a method. Every constraint becomes texture, and what emerges is never generic.
The fast-paced, collaborative chaos of their process is entirely visual in each music video. Ethan puts it plainly, "planning things to the best of our ability, and then running around London filming things.” You can tell they're working with friends, there's a looseness to it.
